Official Rules of Sapperton Song Contest
YOU ARE REQUIRED TO READ AND AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONAS. PARTICIPATION IN THIS CONTEST CONSTITUTES ACCEPTANCE TO THE CONTEST RULES.
ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18 IS REQUIRED TO HAVE THEIR PARENT READ AND ACKNOWLEDGE THE RULES OF THE CONTEST.Eligibility
Only residents of New Westminster, B.C. who are 10 years of age or older at the time of entry may participate in the 2010 Sapperton Song Contest.To Enter
Only one entry per person or group will be accepted. All submissions will be reviewed by the committee before being accepted and posted on the Shop Sapperton web page. To enter, each entrant must complete the following steps:
- * Read and agree with these official Contest Terms and Conditions. Submission of an entry into this Contest confirms your agreement with the Contest Rules.
- * Post their video on You Tube and forward the link through submitting it through the Shop Sapperton webpage. In the body of the email you must type "I agree to the terms and conditions of the Sapperton Song Contest" to show that you have read and agree to all the Contest Terms and Conditions. The artist, composer and/or group name should be included along with the track title, as well as contact info, including daytime telephone number and e-mail address.
- * All songs must be original recordings by the artist and the track must not be sold anywhere on the World Wide Web for the duration of this contest. No unauthorized use of copyrighted property from any other song or composition may be used. The artist(s) involved cannot be signed to any major label. The conditions of the contest will be strictly enforced and any submissions that do not comply will be disqualified.
- * The Songs may not exceed 3 minutes and 30 seconds with up to an additional minute for commentary. For a maximum of 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
- * By submitting an entry to the contest, the entrant agrees the Sapperton Business Association, the Sapperton Song Contest and S.A.S.S.- B.C. the right to use the video, in part or in whole, without compensation. Entrant grants the Sapperton Business Association, the Sapperton Song Contest and S.A.S.S.- B.C. the non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free right to digitize its audio recording, and to reproduce, publicly perform, publicly display, and/or distribute the Recordings in digital audio format (in streaming or downloadable form) on the world wide web.
- * The subject of the song and video may not contain nudity, profanity, hateful behaviour, inappropriate behaviour, vulgarity, weapons, simulation of drug use or violence.
Deadlines
The contest opens May 1st, 2010 and the deadline for submissions is 6 p.m. June 4th, 2010. The contest winner will be announced on June 6th, 2010. Any and all contest winners must be available and may be required to perform on Sunday, June 13th, 2010 at the Sapperton Day Street Festival, New Westminster, B.C.
Winner Selection
One (1) winner and up to three (3) runners-ups, but not limited to, will be selected.
Release
By participating, entrants agree that the Sapperton Business Association, the Sapperton Song Contest and S.A.S.S.- B.C. and those involved in the development and production of the contest will not be held liable for disputes and conflicts arising from the contest and any and all song submissions.
Disputes
Contestants agree that any and all disputes connected with this contest shall be resolved under British Columbia law. The contestants agree that these disputes will be required to be resolved individually, without any form of a class action. The contestants agree to submit themselves to the jurisdiction of the courts of British Columbia.
Sapperton Song Contest FAQ
Can the song be previously self-released?- Yes, but the song can not be available for sale or available for download online.
- Yes, it can. We only ask that it not be for sale anywhere online during the duration of the contest.
After the contest is over, may I make my song available for download elsewhere?
- Yes, after a period of 90 days.
Is there a maximum or minimum song length?
- Yes, the song may not be longer than 3 minutes and 30 seconds plus up to a maximum of 1 minute for commentary; a total length of 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
Are there any restrictions on lyrics?
- The only restrictions are that the song must be original, your own and display a tasteful topic as per the terms and conditions laid out in the rules.
As a singer-songwriter who's also in a band, can I submit a song that I performed solo and one I performed with a group?
- No, only one submission per person
